The Writing Sample section is the second to last (third) of the four components of the MCAT. The format is always the same, two essays must be completed in one hour. (30 minutes each without the possibility to use more time on one than the other.) Regardless of the test version, the essays must always be written in response to a "prompt" or topic sentence.
While the test is now computer based, access to text editing tools such as spelling, thesaurus, and grammar check are disabled. Only copy, cut, paste, and delete are permitted.
Understanding how the prompt is formatted and what the test is asking you to write is the first step in ensuring an excellent grade. Examinees who fail to complete one or more of the outlined tasks are guaranteed to score poorly regardless of how well the essay was written.
